What is Vulvodynia?
Vulvodynia is a pain condition in a woman’s vulva or genital region which can severely impact her life, making it difficult or impossible to use tampons, have a pelvic exam, or engage in intercourse. Over the years, I have seen more women in my office for this condition than I ever would have imagined. There is a wide range of causes for this, including: hormonal, musculoskeletal, inflammatory, neurologic, and traumatic, although extensive research on this ailment is only about 13-years-old.
Though a patient with this diagnosis will need other medical providers as well, physical therapy can play a huge role in her healing! Through massage, relaxation, stretching, stress reduction, posture education and other techniques, patients often experience a decrease in pain. They also experience a great relief that there is a provider out there who will listen, educate them, and be a resource to this often depressing condition.
If you, or someone you know, is suffering from the painful effects of Vulvodynia, I can help! As a pelvic physical therapist serving Queensbury, Glens Falls, Lake George and the Saratoga Springs region with a private, comfortable physical therapy office in Queensbury NY, we will work together to restore your pelvic health.
